Willow was selected to keep the weight of the tote down considering it's function being to lug around heavy firewood. The slats are 3\/8 thick and the board and the bottom is a full inch in order to take the beating of firewood being plunked down inside of it on the regular. The galvanized box nails are \"clenched\" on the inside of the tote to create a snag-free interior surface and clamp the boards permanently in place with each other.
